LSU baseball visits Kylie Bush at UNMC

OMAHA, Neb. (KALB) - For 11-year-old Kylie Bush of Pineville, Louisiana, today at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) was a trip to the ball park with her favorite team: the LSU Tigers.

"She was ecstatic," says Kendall Bush, Kylie's father. "She couldn't wait. She's been waiting for this over a week now. She heard it might happen and got the call this morning. They said okay they'll be there. So, she's thrilled."

Kylie has short bowel syndrome and has now been at UNMC since late December recovering from a second multi-organ transplant.

"When she was a year and a half old she had a small bowel transplant, but she lost her rejection," describes Kendall. "This time she got small bowel, liver and pancreas."

Today's visit from the LSU baseball team helped Kylie forget about her recovery.

"I like it, because I play baseball in my yard with my sister's old stuff and it's really fun," says Kylie. "So, I enjoy it."

She got to meet all the Tigers. Even the one from across the Red River, Matthew Beck of Alexandria.

"She's been here for over half a year, so you know. Just being able to come here and brighten her day a little bit while we're here - she's a Tiger supporter - it's kind of hard to put into words the joy that we get to bring her," adds LSU freshman pitcher Matthew Beck.

LSU hopes to deliver more wins at the College World Series in addition to the smiles they gave this afternoon, but if they're unable to win a national championship they won't lose their biggest fan.

"They're still my favorite team even if they don't, but they're still my favorite team," says Kylie.

While the LSU Tigers may return from Omaha to Louisiana before Kylie does, her father Kendall says he would like to see her return in time for the start of next school year.

"They tell you to come prepared to stay a minimum of six months," explains Kendall. "So, we're approaching that point where things are starting to get where maybe we can go home soon. Right now her goal is she wants to get home so she can get back to J.I. Barron for the school year."

To Kylie's family and friends back home, she says she misses you and can't wait to see you when she returns.
