LSU football legend, Heisman winner Billy Cannon dies at 80

BATON ROUGE -- Louisiana State University football legend Billy Cannon passed away on Sunday morning, according to the university. He was 80.

Cannon won the Heisman Trophy as a halfback in 1959, the only LSU player so far to do so.

He is best remembered for his 89-yard punt return in the final minutes against Ole Miss in 1959, leading the Tigers to a 7-3 victory against the 3rd ranked Rebels.

Cannon was also a key member of LSU's 1958 National Championship team.
