(KALB) - Tom Petty, the rocker best known as the frontman of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, is 'clinging to life,' reports say.

According to TMZ, Petty was found unconscious in full cardiac arrest on Sunday night. Medical technicians arrived at his home in Malibu and transported him to a hospital after finding a pulse.

On Monday, it was released that Petty had no brain activity. It was then decided to pull him off of life support.

That's when several media outlets, including CBS, reported that the singer had died at 66. Those reports were apparently based on another report that came from the Los Angeles Police Department.

Later, those outlets corrected themselves and cited a TMZ report that said Petty is now "clinging to life."

According to CBS News, Petty played his last show last Monday, performing three sold-out shows at the Hollywood Bowl to conclude the Heartbreakers' 40th anniversary tour. The band wrote on their website that the tour included 53 shows in 24 states.

That tour currently ranks ninth on the list of Top 20 concert tours of 2017 having grossed $1.6 million.
