Lightning safety tips that are...shocking!

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - You probably already know to go inside during a thunderstorm. But lightning safety is something you don't want to take lightly.

There is a catchy phrase when it comes to thunder, “When thunder roars, go indoors!”

When you hear the sound of thunder, you are likely too close to that particular thunderstorm and need to find a safe place as quickly as you can. Unfortunately, there is little you can do to drastically reduce your risk if you are caught outside in a thunderstorm.

However, here are some tips to follow if you are unable to get indoors during a thunderstorm. These can SLIGHTLY lessen the threat of a possible strike. If, after encountering thunder and lightning while enjoying the outdoors, you get into a safe place, it is important to know that you should wait at least thirty minutes after the last rumble of thunder before resuming your particular outdoor activity.
