RUSTON, La. (KNOE) - Authorities say a Ruston man has been arrested on sex crime charges.

According to Louisiana State Police, the suspect is 35-year-old Christopher Sparks. Until just before his arrest, Sparks was a correctional officer with Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Police say their investigation into Sparks' alleged activities began May 12, 2019, after they were contacted by the sheriff's office.

The investigation led to his arrest two days later, on May 14. Police say Sparks resigned from his job before he was arrested.

Sparks is charged with sexual battery and molestation of a juvenile.

He was booked into the Lincoln Parish jail. His bond is $500,000.

State police say the case is still under investigation.

They add:

"The public plays an integral role in identifying suspects accused of crimes such as these, and is strongly urged to report criminal or suspicious activity. The Louisiana State Police online reporting system is available to the public through a convenient and secure reporting form that is submitted to the appropriate investigators.
