Local Army National Guard officer Col. Katrina Lloyd makes history

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - On Friday, the Hotel Bentley lobby was packed as family, friends, and the community celebrated a milestone for Colonel Katrina Lloyd.

Then, Lieutenant Colonel Katrina Lloyd was promoted to colonel.

She's just the second African American woman to achieve the rank.

The first, Colonel Jona Hughes pinned the eagle to Col. Lloyd's cover at Friday's promotion ceremony. Col. Lloyd is also the first African American and the first woman to be battalion commander for the Louisiana State Medical Command and the full-time State Surgeon for the Louisiana National Guard, while still serving as the Louisiana Medical Command Administrative Officer.
