ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - Community members splashed into summer on Saturday with the Cenla Juvenile Officer's Association!
The group held their second annual celebration at Alexandria City Park to give kids something fun to look forward to over the summer.
CJOA and the Alexandria Police Department partnered with many organizations in the community to bring the event together.
While kids were cooling off at the splash pad, CJOA members were cooking free hot dogs and hamburgers. They also provided drinks, games, a jumper, DJ and more!
Organizers said it's a way to make sure the kids not only have fun, but stay safe during the summer months.
"We want to give back to the community and actually give the kids in the community something to do," said organizer and APD Officer Terrance Howard. "A lot of times you go talk to people in the community, you talk to the kids. You ask them why they are committing particular crimes, they say I had nothing else to do. That is the common answer. So, we are trying to give them something to do. We had a lot of people donate to us, so it wasn't as difficult to put on this event."
Their next event will be held at Frank O' Hunter Park during the first weekend in August.
