Local runners on mission to raise $150,000 for St. Jude Children's Hospital

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - A local Cenla runners group won't be showing up to the St. Jude's Memphis Marathon starting line this December, empty handed.

Their goal is to raise $150,000 for children and families in need.

They held a Cenla Red Wagon 5K on Saturday at England Airpark. More than 200 runners came out to support their cause.

St. Jude Red Wagons are iconic, because it's how they pull children around the hospital in comfort and style!

The 5K raised $14,000, which puts their current total at $123,000!

"Louisiana is ranked one of the highest in the country for kids that visit St. Jude," said Red Wagon organizer Sandy Piland. "So, we have several in our community that have experienced it there. We've got them each in a yellow T-shirt, and they are walking around cheering on the runners that are trying to support them."

They still have three months to raise more and hope to possibly surpass their goal.
