A select group of students tasked with displaying the flag got this year's lesson with Robbins early Monday morning.

"Never let the flag touch the ground, that's the first thing I tell them," said Robbins. The veteran also shows students how to properly handle the flag when hoisting it onto a pole and how to fold it.

"I think it's important to teach the younger kids how to respect the flag," said Robbins. All of his children went to Vernon Middle and his wife taught there for a number of years.

Robbins said being able to pass down his knowledge gives him a sense of pride.
