NATCHITOCHES, La. (NSU) - Northwestern State University’s Department of Military Science hosted a commissioning ceremony Aug. 3 for 2nd Lt. Ronicia L. Howze of Leesville, a U.S. Army ROTC cadet who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with Biomedical Concentration and a minor in Military Science.
After completing the Adjutant General Basic Officer Leader Course at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, she will be assigned to the 338th Military Intelligence Battalion in San Antonio, Texas.
Howze is a 2014 cum laude graduate of Leesville High School where she excelled as a powerlifting champion and member of the varsity volleyball team, soccer team, Bible Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Mayor’s Youth Council and the National Honor Society.
At NSU, Howze was involved with intramural basketball, Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority and Alpha Epsilon Delta Honor Society. She was a Cadet Scholar and was listed on the Honor and Dean’s List. She joined the Demon Battalion in 2014 and earned the coveted 3-year Advanced Designee ROTC Scholarship, the Commendation Medal and the Recruiting, Color Guard and Field Training Exercise Awards.
Howze served in several peer-selected leadership positions with the Demon Battalion, including Squad Leader, Platoon Leader, Battalion Training Officer and Battalion Executive Officer. In 2017, she completed Advanced Camp at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and went on to serve as Basic Camp Cadre, also at Fort Knox.
