ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - Rapides Parish School students returned to the classrooms on Tuesday morning, including Mabel Brasher students who have been out of school since the December 16 tornado.
A couple of days after the tornado hit, the school’s floors and ceilings were completely destroyed.
On Tuesday morning, students were able to return to better conditions. Angie Franklin, the Principal of Mabel Brasher, said the next big project is to finish the floors.
After being out of school for nearly a month following the tornado, students were happy to be back and thankful for their teachers.
Naegam Allan and Elijah Moser, two 5th graders, were particularly thankful that their teachers kept them safe during the storm.
“I would like to say to them thank you for keeping us safe, and thank you for the patience of teaching us,” one of the students said.
Mrs. Franklin also added that students will have a chance to showcase their Christmas performance they were practicing for before the tornado.
