The Alexandria Police Department told us around 10:15 p.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 2700 block of Hynson Street. When officers arrived, they were told a vehicle had been traveling on Hynson Street when someone shot at it. The vehicle then ran off the road and then drove away from the scene.

Police said the vehicle was later located nearby in front of a house in the 0-99 block of Essie Street. The vehicle had bullet holes and broken windows. There was also blood in the car. Additionally, a man was found lying on the ground near the car, apparently shot. He was pronounced dead.

Chief Jerrod King confirmed that this was a domestic incident that is believed to have started by the suspect approaching the new boyfriend of his soon-to-be ex-wife. The victim has identified as Willis Carter, 34, of Alexandria.

"It's extremely hard. Domestic violence can happen anywhere at anytime," said Chief King. "I could never have enough officers to prevent incidents of domestic violence, as tragic as it is. It is tragic. An innocent person has lost their life at the hands of a gun through domestic violence and that is horrible."

If you see Mason or have knowledge of his whereabouts, please contact the Alexandria Police Department Detective Office at (318) 441-6416, or after hours call Dispatch at (318) 449-5099.
