NATCHITOCHES PARISH, La. (NOPD Press release) - UPDATE: The manhunt for Blake Joseph Dauzat has ended Wednesday morning at 4 a.m.
NPSO said that after several hours of negotiations by Natchitoches SWAT Crisis Negotiators, Dauzat suffered from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
He was transported to the Rapides Regional Medical Center Trauma Center in Alexandria and was pronounced dead at 6:45 a.m. The body is being transported to Shreveport for an autopsy.
Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies, Natchitoches SWAT assisted by Louisiana State Police and Louisiana State Police Air Support are involved in a manhunt in south Natchitoches Parish in connection with a shooting on Tuesday evening according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.
On Tuesday evening December 4 at approximately 6:55 p.m., Deputies assigned to the NPSO Patrol Division responded to 911 reports of a disturbance in the 300 block of G.R. Bardwell Road near Chopin, La. reportedly involving a father and son.
While deputies were responding to the scene at 7:18 p.m., NPSO 911 Communications received an additional 911 call from a female reporting that her son had shot his father.
Natchitoches Regional Medical Center EMS was dispatched.
Deputies arrived on scene discovering that a male suffering from gunshot wounds to his hip area and a female were able to crawl to a vehicle and leave the area for help.
Deputies learned that the suspect identified as 21-year-old Blake Joseph Dauzat, W/M, Hgt/508, Wgt/151 with dark brown hair, hazel eyes, and tattoos of “97” and “baby” on both arms last seen wearing light gray jogging pants, a red short sleeve shirt and white tennis shoes armed with a handgun had possibly fled into the woods.
Natchitoches SWAT, a NMJDTF Tracking K-9 along with Louisiana State Police and Louisiana State Police Air Support has been deployed to the area to assist in the search of buildings and the woods in the area.
SWAT Team members are armed with search warrants signed by a Tenth Judicial District Court Judge.
Dauzat is believed to be armed and dangerous.
The victim was transported from the area by Natchitoches Regional Medical Center EMS to Rapides Regional Medical Center where he is currently listed in stable condition.
Detectives with the NPSO Criminal Investigations Division is currently on-scene gathering evidence and at Rapides Regional Medical Center interviewing the victim and witnesses in the shooting.
A heavy law enforcement presence is in the area.
On Monday evening December 3 at approximately 6:55 p.m., Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the same address involving the theft of a computer and cellphone.
Dauzat was identified as a suspect in that case, however, he fled into the woods prior to law enforcement arrival.
Deputies obtained warrants signed by a Tenth Judicial District Court Judge for the arrest of Dauzat and looked for him throughout Tuesday but were unable to locate him.
