Wood was endorsed by the current sheriff, William Earl Hilton, expressing his confidence and belief in the ability of Wood.

Sheriff Hilton said he hired him years ago and he's watched Wood gain knowledge of law enforcement, grow within the sheriff's office, and progress through the ranks. Right now, he is serving as the head of the criminal patrol division.

"Mark has the compassion and the drive to lead Rapides Parish to be the next sheriff," Hilton said. "I've had to personally call him for law enforcement to come to my home and they were there within three minutes. I felt very confident calling him that something was going to get done."

Wood said he has spent many hours in training and classrooms, learning new techniques of law enforcement in order to meet new challenges of crime and criminals. He said he will bring a progressive attitude if he is elected sheriff.
