MARKSVILLE, La. (KALB) - Marksville Police Department switching things up a little with their “Facts and Fades” event right before the 2019-2020 school year.

Marksville Officers decided to take a day off from the uniforms Saturday, and spend their day in t-shirts and tennis shoes instead!

Through an all-day event, children were able to enjoy a day of fun with their local law enforcement.

There were water slides, games, and even a dunk booth where kids were able to dunk an officer.

School supplies were also provided, giving more than 300 kids school necessities to get started with.

A few barbers were also on site, giving free haircuts.
Marksville P.D. Sergeant Laken Rico, creator of the event said she hopes to make it an annual event.

"There's this stereotype now, that police are bad guys, or police are going to do something to children,” Rico said. “We don't want it to be that way, we want them to feel comfortable coming up to us and being able to talk to us about any personal issues or just about anything we can help them with."
