Melrose man injured after tractor accident in Cane River

NATCHITOCHES, La. (NPSO) - A Melrose man suffered moderate injuries during a tractor incident on Thursday afternoon, according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office.

Around 12:24 p.m., deputies assigned to the NPSO Patrol Division, Natchitoches Regional Medical Center EMS, Natchitoches OEP, and Natchitoches Parish Fire District #1 responded to 911 reports of a medical emergency involving a tractor incident in the 400 block of La. Hwy 119, south of Melrose.

Deputies said Larry Artman, 76, of Melrose, was operating a John Deere tractor hauling dirt near the shore of Cane River with the bucket up. The tractor began traveling downhill and slid. The tractor went over the edge of the seawall into Cane River, ejecting Artman into the water.

Members of Fire District# 1 rescued Artman and rendered first aid until EMS arrived. He was transported from the scene with a possible fractured leg to St. Frances Cabrini Medical Center in Alexandria.
