Mothers of Cottonport murder victims speak out at candlelight vigil
A vigil was held in Mansura on Friday night to honor the life of one taken far too soon.
Justin Heath, 32, was shot and killed in Cottonport on November 24. Family and friends knew him as a funny, happy, father who loved his kids and was always a joy to be around.
News Channel 5’s Faith King spoke with the mother of Justin, and also the mother of Monte Jones, the second victim who was killed on that tragic night in Cottonport.
“I just hope and pray that what happened here in the last two weeks, that this community can come together as one, and stop,” expressed Kaffey Heath, Justin’s mother. “For my son Justin, and also his godbrother Monte this has to stop, the hatred between each other has to stop, this is not called for, we weren't raised this way."
"I just want justice for my child, I'm just so full, my heart is just so full,” cried Kehatha Jones, the mother of Monte Jones. “I just don't know what to say anymore, it's just hard, you don't know the experience of any of this, and for what they did to him, that was just totally unethical, speechless, it didn't even have to happen, it didn't even have to come to that, at all."
Justin Heath's funeral service will be held Saturday morning at the Little Zion Baptist Church in Cottonport. Viewing and visitation services will begin at 9:30 a.m. until 10:30. His celebration of life will begin at 11:00 a.m.
