On October 16, around 1:40 p.m., Cpl. Harry Robertson, along with Motor Officer Butch Mackey, were on patrol when the Creola Police Department advised that they were in a pursuit of an SUV heading East on Tioga Road toward the Town of Ball.

Officers were at the intersection of U.S. Hwy 165 and La. Hwy 623 waiting on the vehicle when it went through the intersection at high speed, almost striking two vehicles. Officers began pursuit and called for backup.

Ball Police units, along with the assistance of RPSO, Wildlife and Fisheries, and Louisiana State Police chased the vehicle until it came to rest on Esler Field road, near Donahue Ferry. The driver then fled on foot into the woods while the passenger was detained. Officers and RPSO K-9 pursued the suspect and he was apprehended by Wildlife and Fisheries Agents without any further incident.

Ball Police Department arrested the driver of the vehicle identified as Paul Matthews from Conroe, Tx. for aggravated flight from an officer.

Creola Police Department arrested the driver and passenger of the vehicle for narcotics charges.

Matthews had an NCIC warrant from Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office for a sexual offense against a female juvenile. The suspect had numerous prior violent charges from Texas.

We are currently awaiting a mugshot for Matthews.
