Natchitoches student arrested for battery of police officer

NATCHITOCHES, La. (NPD) - According to the Natchitoches Police Department, a student was arrested after causing a disturbance on a bus and committing a battery on a police officer.

NPD received a call on May 16 around 3:50 p.m. in reference to a disturbance on a school bus near the intersection of Highway 3110 and Highway 3175.

An officer arrived on scene and was speaking with the driver, when a female passenger began yelling and cursing. The officer asked her to stop, but she continued, resulting in her arrest.

The passenger, identified as Shirley Hughes, 18, of Powhatan, began to resist arrest and committed a battery on the officer. More officers arrived at the scene and transported Hughes to NPD.

Hughes was charged with interference, resisting an officer, second-degree battery, and battery on an officer. She was placed in the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center.
