SLIDELL, La. (AP) - A 31-year-old Covington man is dead after he was hit by a vehicle on Interstate 10 in Slidell.

Louisiana State Police said troopers responded to a fatal crash involving a pedestrian about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday on the I-10 westbound entrance ramp from U.S. 190.

The victim was identified as Chad Hart.

Troopers said Hart was walking in the middle of the ramp, when a 2004 Ford Expedition hit him.

Hart was transported to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The SUV's driver, Shane Crawford, 42, of Slidell, was not hurt.

Troopers said Crawford provided a breath sample, which registered over the state's legal blood-alcohol limit of .08%.

Blood samples also were collected.

He faces a vehicular homicide charge.
