Phoenix Magnet clubs present service project check to Manna House
Every day the Manna House serves hundreds of warm plates for community members in need, and this year Phoenix Magnet students started a service project to contribute.
They asked the community to help sponsor a plate for just $3.
The school's BETA and 4-H clubs colored the plates and displayed them in the cafeteria.
Each plate was also decorated with the four food groups.
"Of course everybody likes to decorate plates," said fourth-grader Hugh Newcomer. "So, everybody donated a couple of dollars and they got to decorate a plate."
Their initial goal was to collect $500 which they surpassed, collecting $965.
Students said it felt good to make an impact on their community.
"Giving them a plate of food is like wonderful," said fifth-grader Juliann Smith. "We have three meals a day regularly, it just comes in. We can be like, I want pasta or burgers. They don't have that choice."
Rapides Regional was also a helpful sponsor of their project.
