Pineville Elementary students hold first Robotics Tournament

PINEVILLE, La. (KALB) - Young engineers from across the state gathered at Pineville Elementary Saturday for the school's first ever robotics tournament. Pineville's 'Lioneers' and 'Warbots' teams are the top elementary teams in Louisiana.

They were competing against several junior high school teams testing robot build and skill.

Pineville received a grant last year from Vex Robotics to make their first robot. They recently got more funding to expand the robotics and coding programs for all students next year.

Students said they practice every morning and are thrilled to watch their robots come to life. In the past they have even created a pie throwing robot.

"We practice every single morning, before school for 20 minutes," said Pineville Robotics teacher Devin Alexander. "They are all super engaged, they are all working together."

Both Pineville Elementary teams qualified for states and will compete in February in Delhi, Louisiana.
