NATCHITOCHES, La. (Spirit of Northwestern Media Team) - Graduate student and tubist Keith Sanders is currently in his final semester of the Master of Music degree program at Northwestern State University.

After receiving his degree in May, he will attend the prestigious College of Music at the University of North Texas to study under Donald Little, regents professor of tuba.

Sanders grew up in Pineville and graduated from Bolton High School in 2003. He completed his bachelor’s degree in 2010 as an online student at Thomas Edison State University.

During his time at NSU, Sanders has performed with the Natchitoches-Northwestern Symphony, Tuba and Euphonium Choir, and the Wind Symphony, among other ensembles.

His UNT audition took place on Feb. 4, and Sanders found out he was accepted into the program later that day. Prior to auditioning, he considered doctoral programs at the University of Alabama and the University of Memphis.

Factors influencing his decision included the location, faculty and reputation of UNT’s music school.

At UNT, Sanders will primarily work with tuba professor Little, Coordinator of Brass Brian Bowman and Director of Wind Studies Eugene Corporon. Upon receiving the Doctor of Musical Arts degree, Sanders would like to work at a university or college teaching tuba and euphonium.
