RPSB employees will get a $500 holiday stipend this December

RAPIDES PARISH, La. (KALB) - Rapides Parish School employees will get some extra financial help this holiday season.

Tuesday the Rapides Parish School Board voted to give out a $500 stipend. The vote was 6-3. Board members Keith Breazeale, Steve Berry and Dr. Stephen Chapman were against it.

The one-time supplemental pay will come in the form of a 15th check. The district's CFO said it will come sometime in December.

Employees must perform four hours of additional duties between November 11th and November 22nd to receive the stipend.

Superintendent Jeff Powell said school and department supervisors will decide the best way for employees to earn their hours.

Rapides Federation of Teachers President Leona Venson said she hopes they find a permanent bonus to give employees.

"I realize this is not a permanent amount of money they will keep in their checks, it is a stipend," Venson said. "But, it can boost morale, especially around a time when there is a holiday coming. The employees very much would appreciate it."
