The Rapides Parish School Board narrowed down their superintendent search to seven candidates.

They met in a special board meeting on Wednesday to review all eight applications. The board decided that Dr. Corwin Robinson did not meet the qualifications for the position.

The board will conduct first-round interviews with the remaining seven candidates in alphabetical order:

Monday: Kimberly Bennett - Rapides Parish Executive Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum Brian Binggeli - Lucas, Texas Deborah Heitman -- Former Rosenthal Elementary Principal Jeff Powell - Iberville Parish School District Dr. Camacia Smith-Ross -- Former Louisiana College Dean of Education Wednesday: Dr. Myron Spencer - Houston, Texas Jesse Winston Jr. - Morehouse Parish School District

Following the last interview on Wednesday, they will narrow it down to three finalists. Board members said they have a strong batch of candidates.

"We do, we feel that those individuals met the qualifications and we are excited about interviewing them," said Superintendent Search Committee Co-chair Sandra Franklin. "Sometimes we can see things on paper, but it is good to have that interview face to face and hear those concerns, and ask questions that are not on the standard questionnaires."

The board will also hold a public forum on Monday, June 24 at 6 p.m., in the Media Center. It will be a chance for the community to meet all three finalists and ask questions.
