ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - In a recent episode of 'Small Talks,' I caught up with a first-grader with an admirable goal.
"I wanna be a Sheriff," Jacob Beeson says. "I wanna be one of the ones that go and ride the horses."
KALB passed the request onto the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office, and they were happy to help his dream become a reality. Deputies gave Jacob and the rest of his first-grade class a visit at Peabody Montessori. Captain Tommy Carnline presented Jacob with a badge, shield, and gifts for him and his classmates.
"The way things are today, anytime we can make a positive impact with a youngster, whether they're in first grade or twelfth grade, we try to take advantage of that," Capt. Carnline says.
During the surprise, Jacob remained quiet with a huge smile on his face. His mother, Dannielle Beeson says he was in shock.
"I think this will definitely be something that he'll always remember, Dannielle says. "He'll definitely be able to look back and think. The hard work that he puts in...serving and doing things for people. He'll just take that a step further."
Jacob and his classmates also had the pleasure of touring a patrol car, meeting a K9, and learned about what it means to be an officer.
