RAPIDES PARISH, La. (KALB) - The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office is searching for a person who allegedly threw rocks onto passing vehicles in the Tioga area.
RPSO said they got the call at the end of last month when a driver was driving down Highway 167. The driver told police that a young girl, probably around 16 to 21 years old, threw a rock off of the Ates Road Overpass.
The driver said the rock hit his vehicle, causing a good bit of damage to the windshield. RPSO said this is not only a crime, it’s also very dangerous.
"Oh, this could've been terrible,” explained Captain Tommy Carnline. “I think I remember an incident where someone was killed by a large piece of concrete hitting their vehicle. I don't remember it penetrated the windshield, or they crashed, or what. Windshields are pretty strong, but the driver could crash and hurt themselves or others. This is criminal mischief, and if there's injuries involved, charges could be upgraded."
If you have any information, you are asked to contact the RPSO Tioga Substation.
