RPSO deputy injured in crash after high speed chase Tuesday

RAPIDES PARISH, La. (RPSO) - A Rapides Parish Sheriff's deputy suffered minor injuries in a crash late Tuesday night after a high speed chase through Alexandria and Pineville. Two suspects were later caught and arrested.

It started when a deputy tried to stop the car for a traffic violation at Lee Street and Masonic Drive in Alexandria. But the driver of the car, Jamal Trenton Fobbs, refused to stop, leading to a pursuit by the deputy and State Police into Pineville on US 167 North.

During the chase, Fobbs' vehicle swerved at an RPSO unit causing the deputy to lose control while trying to avoid a crash and hitting a guard rail.

Fobbs and his passenger, Janeen Howard, were captured later in Alexandria near North 16th Street. Another male passenger was able to run away, deputies said.

Fobbs faces charges that include flight from an officer, aggravated assault upon a peace officer, possession of legend drug, possession of CDS 1 to produce/manufacture, and texting while driving.

Howard was arrested for resisting an officer, possession of legend drug, and possession of CDS 1 to produce/manufacture.
