Cooks from all over the south come out for the chance to win a $12,000 prize.

The Barbecue Cookoff Alliance (BCA) has been putting on the event since 2009. They said it's not only fun for the chefs competing, but also a good opportunity for the community.

"Traditionally, people spend their money,” explained Andy Hollerman, BCA President. “These cooks have to come here, they have to eat here, and they have to buy supplies here. So really it helps bring things to the local economy. And that's the way we like to do it."

On Friday night there are a few smaller competitions, like best margarita and dessert. Coordinators said Saturday is the big competition. It kicks off at 11 a.m., rain or shine.
