Rapides Parish Superintendent Jeff Powell made a guest appearance at the Alexandria Rotary Club on Tuesday, for the first time in his new position.

He wanted to let the community in on his plans to engage, empower and elevate the district.

Powell shared plans for his first 100 days on the job.

He is starting by listening and learning with all employees in the district, analyzing district academic performance and evaluating the organizational chart. He is also reviewing financial resources and taking a closer look at buildings.

Powell wants to get the community on board.

"One of the big messages that we are trying to get out to the community is that we are better together," Powell said. "We talk about engage, empower and elevate. That is about all of us coming together and doing what is right for kids. But, when we do what is right for kids, our entire community is empowered and elevates to their maximum potential."

Powell took over the district's highest position at the start of July.
