Rapides Parish Sheriff candidates participated in a forum on Tuesday night over at the Rapides Parish Coliseum.

It was the chance for parish voters to better inform themselves in what will be the biggest local race on October 12.

The Greater Central Lousiana Realtors Association and Cenla Broadcasting put on the event.

Candidates answered questions from moderators Matt Dunn with Cenla Broadcasting and Matt Ritchie with the Realtors Association, as well as a few audience questions.

There was not a whole lot of fireworks, but an overwhelming topic of discussion was drugs. Especially when it comes to property crimes, candidates seemed to agree that they need to increase patrol and focus on community policing.

Juvenile crime reduction dominated the first part of the nearly three-hour forum, whether it was bringing back the boot camp program and improving school resource officer involvement.
