Rapides grand jury indicts three in the murder of woman with cerebral palsy
A Rapides Parish grand jury has returned a true bill in the case of three people arrested for the neglect of a young woman with cerebral palsy who died in November.
Karen Harrison, 47, the mother of Cyra Harrison, is charged with second degree murder, conspiracy to commit second degree murder, cruelty to the infirmed, and cruelty to a juvenile.
A couple that Harrison was living with, Glen Maricle, 55, and Marilyn Maricle, 52, were also indicted on the same charges.
The arrests of the three came after the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a home on Leon Odom Road in the Plainview Community on November 21 in reference to what was reported as a natural death.
According to the complainant, the victim, 25-year-old Cyra Harrison, was a special needs patient suffering from cerebral palsy. She was found dead that morning.
The responding deputy found that the living conditions were deplorable and determined the incident needed further investigation. Detectives believed the death was a result of severe intentional neglect.
Bond was set for each at $1,850,000. Brian Cespiva will prosecute the case.
