"Rec 2 U" program provides free food and activities for families this summer

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - School's out, the kids are home and it's the middle of July - all common causes of Cenla summer boredom.

However, the city of Alexandria has provided a cure.

The Parks and Rec Department is hosting a program called "Rec 2 U" throughout the rest of July. Every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m., they set up at different parks around town and invite families to come out for free activities and food.

From water slides to face painting to a friendly game of football, there's something for everyone, all in hopes to help kids and parents make the most of their summer.

"It's important, especially now because our kids don't have that much to do," said Parks and Rec Assistant, Precious Stewart.

"So anytime we can go into the community and feed them and give them something to do and give them a few positive words or words of encouragement, it's very important for us to touch the youth and the community today."

Here's the schedule for the rest of the month of July:
7/12 - Sycamore Apartments
7/17 - Martin Park
7/19 - Lincoln Park
7/24 - City Park
