The goal of the project is to get every graduating senior enrolled in the JAG Program to open and learn how to manage a checking and savings account, as well as help prepare them to make sound financial decisions as they get ready to enter adulthood.

“This is an exciting financial education pilot program that we believe will continue to influence attitudes and behaviors toward money management well after graduation,” said LaRunda Hobbs Pierce, Supervisor of Career and Technical Education with the Rapides Parish School Board.]

The kick-off event and first financial education session will be held on August 30, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at Rapides Parish School Board, located at 619 6th Street. They will have a Mobile Banking Unit present for demonstration, and the session will focus on opening and managing a checking account.

This program will be offered for each of the following JAG-LA high school programs in Rapides Parish:
-Alexandria Senior High School
-Bolton High School
-Peabody Magnet High School
-Rapides High School
-Tioga High School

Also, they will provide financial education sessions to the school district's middle school programs:
-Alexandria Middle Magnet School
-Arthur F. Smith Middle Magnet School
-Tioga Junior High School

“We are thrilled to partner with JAG-LA on this worthy project, and to continue our efforts of financial education throughout the community,” said Jannease Seastrunk, VP Community Relations/CRA Officer Red River Bank. “These groups of senior high school students present the greatest need, as they will potentially go directly from high school into the workforce and will be able to take the skills they learn in this program with them.”

Jobs for America’s Graduates -Louisiana Program is an affiliate of the National JAG program serving youth 12-21 years of age. JAG-LA will provide an educational setting that promotes academic skills, civic responsibility, leadership development and social awareness, all skills necessary to become a responsible citizen and productive worker.
