AVOYELLES PARISH, La. (KALB) - A ribbon was cut and doors were opened to the Red River Charter Academy Saturday morning.
The charter was approved by Bese Late last year and on May 1, RRCA staff began refurbishing the old Mansura Middle School.
The stems based charter will offer students 6th-8th grade a hands-on project and research based academic experience. It will also focus heavily on character development.
The idea for the school was started eight years ago by community members who wanted more school choices in Avoyelles Parish.
Executive Director Stephanie Moreau, said it's amazing to see their plan come to life.
"I'm looking forward to seeing the students here on campus, watching the learning take place," Moreau expressed. "I'm looking forward to seeing the families come in to visit at open houses, and just to be proud of what their students are accomplishing here."
This is the second charter school in Avoyelles Parish, and students will begin classes on Tuesday.
