ALEXANDRIA, La. (COA) - The Light the Night Pineville Mardi Gras Parade will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, in Pineville and then cross into Alexandria where it ends at Third and Murray streets near the Fulton Mini Park.
The parade route in Alexandria will result in the following road closures:
The downtown Atrans bus terminal on Second Street will be closed from 6-10 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, and moved to the Bolton Avenue Community Center due to the Pineville Mardi Gras Parade. Regular Atrans operations will reopen downtown on Saturday, Feb. 15.
At 5 p.m. Second at Winn streets will be closed to traffic.
At 5:30-6 p.m., the cross streets (Johnston, DeSoto, Murray, Washington and Lee streets) on Fourth Street will be closed to traffic. Fourth Street will be open, but traffic will not be able to turn left at those cross streets.
Parking on Third Street to Johnston Street will be blocked off on the left side until parade festivities end. Once the parade begins there will be no traffic allowed to exit Third Street between Jackson and Johnston streets until the end of the parade.
Jackson Street will be closed at 6:30 p.m. from the bridge to Fourth Street while the parade passes. The estimated time for this closure is approximately one to two hours.
The Light the Night Parade route begins at Louisiana College on Main Street in Pineville. It then crosses the Gillis Long Bridge (Jackson Street) into Alexandria and proceeds down Jackson Street and turns left onto Third Street. The parade ends at Third and Murray streets.
