NATCHITOCHES, La. (NPSO) - Due to the potential flash flooding in Natchitoches Parish, sandbags will be available at the City of Natchitoches Public Works Building on Rapides Drive, according to Deputy Mary Jones, Asst. Director of the Natchitoches Office of Homeland Security and Office of Emergency Preparedness.
There is potential for thunderstorms, with high winds, hail, and possible tornadoes moving into the area later this afternoon, tonight, and tomorrow, which may include several inches of rain that can cause flash flooding in some areas.
Deputies assigned to the NPSO Patrol Division have been briefed on the possible impacts of this weather event and are prepared to respond to areas by ground, and water if needed. Boats, ATVs, and chainsaws are prepared and ready if needed. They will continue patrols and monitor road conditions throughout this weather event.
Remember to turn your headlights on in the rain and turn around don't drown on flooded roadways.
The Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office asks that if you have to travel give yourself some extra time, drive carefully, avoid distractions and pay attention to the roadway.
