ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - If you've been through Downtown Alexandria this weekend, you may have noticed a few fire trucks. Don't worry, it's no fire. It's just the Professional Fire Fighters Association of Louisiana Convention.
This annual event brings in fire fighters from more than 30 departments across the state.
They'll spend the weekend hearing from different speakers about maintaining high standards of service, working to prevent injury and death in the line of duty, and creating viable programs to help protect the lives of everyone in the state.
On Friday night, Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser joined the group. He said his message was one of thanks to the men and women who put their lives on the line every day.
"They always go beyond the call of duty in putting service over self,” said Lt. Governor Nungesser. “And risking their own lives. So it was important for me to get back early. And make sure I was here to say thank you, and let them know how appreciated they are. Not just from me as Lt. Governor, but from all the great people of Louisiana."
That convention will continue throughout the weekend.
