The mayor said after resolutions that passed allowing alcohol in the city, they have seen a "slight" increase in the sales tax. Although, there were no specific numbers mentioned. Fields also talked about new businesses coming to the area, highlighting "Wayback Arcade" and "Main Street Food Truck Park" to name a few. Fields also said part of the old K-Mart in Kingsville will be turned into "Ollie's Bargain Outlet" that is set to open in the summer.
Mayor Fields also said there will be a roundabout put at the intersection of Edgewood Dr. and Susek Dr. in the near future. The project spearheaded by DOTD is an effort to speed up traffic in that area.
Mayor Fields also talked about being inducted into the Louisiana Political Hall of Fame in Winnfield for the year 2019, along with Rapides Parish Sheriff William Earl Hilton.
"Talk about the hall of fame. It makes it kind of special to be in a class with Sheriff Hilton. Because it was very special to me when I came into office that he was there when I came into office. He made the transition for me a little bit easier because of the way he worked with myself and our police department and everybody else. So I am really excited about having to have the opportunity to do that in the induction class of 2019," said Fields.
