Staying safe during excessive summertime heat
As summer continues, so does the rise in temperatures, along with the risk of health hazards. Throughout this weather web article, I’ll be discussing the topic of excessive heat safety with helpful tips and tricks to keep in mind when it is especially hot outdoors.
Always stay hydrated in the hot weather! Drink lots of water and also natural fruit juices, even when you are not thirsty. It is not a good idea to be consuming alcoholic or caffeinated beverages when it is hot outside, so avoid those types of drinks, as they will lead you towards dehydration.
When it comes to clothing in excessive heat, wearing lighter, not darker, colored clothes. Wear items that are both lightweight and loose-fitted, which can be quite helpful towards protection in the hot weather. Make sure if you do go outdoors in the heat that you wear plenty of sunscreen and also wear a wide-brimmed hat. If you end up getting a sunburn, that will lead to a reduction in your skin’s overall ability to provide that necessary cooling it needs during the summertime.
Avoid venturing outdoors during the hottest times of the day and take multiple breaks while working in the heat. Take a coworker along to help towards ensuring that any signs of possible heat stress do not end up being overlooked at all.
