ALEXANDRIA, La. (City of Alexandria) - Due to Tuesday morning's storm, residents in Alexandria are experiencing power outages and severe flooding.

The City of Alexandria says most of the roads in the city are now passable. APD says drivers should still be cautious and avoid driving through ANY water. APD also warns drivers to stop at barricades and not to attempt to drive around them.

The Bolton Community Center now CLOSED as an emergency shelter. The Red Cross is going around to damaged homes with clean up kits.
Alexandria Utility Systems have restored some power and all pumps are manned and operating at full capacity.
ATrans is resuming service on major thoroughfares that are not flooded.
According to GPSO, sand bags are available in Grant Parish at the following locations:
Prospect Ball Park
Dry Prong (Near Tennis Courts)
Bynum Fire Station
Walker Ferry Road Fire Station
Colfax Civic Center
Stay safe, follow these tips:
• If your house is affected by the flood, turn off the main electrical switches.
• Watch or listen to weather information via your television, mobile phone or radio to stay updated with local information.
• Do not walk through moving water. Don’t drive through flooded streets, it takes just two feet of water to carry most vehicles away.
• If you are trapped and are in an emergency situation call 911.
Alexandria Utility Systems crews are working as quickly and as safely as possible to restore power, according to AUS Director Michael Marcotte.
