ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - More than 70 local healthcare professionals are learning the newest in stroke care in order to decrease deficits and improve outcomes for stroke patients.

Hospitals from here in Cenla, as well as Monroe and Lake Charles, are attending today's Stroke Symposium in Alexandria. The stroke coordinator at Rapides Regional Medical Center says time is critical someone is dealing with a stroke. with each minute during an event, 1.9 million brain cells are in jeopardy.
Professionals are also learning how to give the best treatment to stroke patients as they're getting transferred to different facilities for emergency care.
