Heidi Stampley's family is from Slidell, but the army brought them to Fort Polk years ago. Her father retired and continues to live in Leesville with his wife. Stampley lives in Atlanta, where she opened 'Orleans Brews and Beignets,' a coffeehouse and cafe that serves Creole cuisine. The menu includes gumbo, po'boys and of course, beignets from a special recipe. Stampley is excited to open the second location in Leesville, a place that continues to be a part of her life. The cafe will be operated by her parents while Stampley continues working at the Fayetteville location in Georgia.
"I just grew up on this food and I know how it makes people happy. We have the hashtag 'the happy place' because people just smile when they come in and when they're leaving out. So I hope to bring that joy of food and just the culture of New Orleans here."
Soft opening hours for Orleans Brews and Beignets are Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Stampley said they also plan on having jazz nights in the future.
