Technical difficulties delay Rapides Parish early voting results
The Louisiana Secretary of State's Office said technical difficulties caused the early voting number results to be delayed in Rapides Parish on Saturday.
After polls closed on Saturday, early voting numbers were delayed several hours after other parishes' numbers were starting to post. Rapides Parish saw record high early voter turnout, and many races weren't decided until the absentee ballot numbers were posted.
The Louisiana Secretary of State's Office told KALB that the optical scanners "took a little longer to scan the ballots". Specifically absentee paper ballots.
"The office always prioritizes accuracy over speed," said Tyler Brey, Secretary of State's Office. "So we are confident that the vote is accurate and the delay is something that our office is looking into so it doesn't happen again and identify the cause of it."
Brey also said Rapides Parish was the only parish that experienced the delay.
