A few Little Cats sailed out one last time on Friday afternoon at Buhlow Lake before their sailing camp ended.

Through a program connected with the Louisiana College Aquatic Team, campers from ages five through 18 can join a three-week summer camp to learn the basics of sailing.

They learn skills such as rigging the boat, tacking and sailing safety. The LCats Summer Camp is under the Office of U.S Sailing, which allows the students to earn a certification in basic sailing.

In August, the students will participate in an annual Regatta, honoring Kristopher Beall, a former member of the club that passed away.

LCats swim-team Coach Robert Stewart said he’s missed greatly.

"Kris Beall was one of our little children that grew up to be 27 years old,” Coach Stewart explained. “He was in a Mobile yacht race and the boat turned over and he drowned, we have the regatta here every year as a remembrance to him.”

The 2019 Regatta will be held on August 4, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
