McGhee was among five people convicted in the disappearance of Jessica Guillot from Avoyelles Parish in September 2013. Guillot's body was never found.

McGhee was convicted in 2014 by an Avoyelles Parish jury on a charge of simple kidnapping. There have been many attempts to appeal this conviction since then.

In October 2014, McGhee tried to get a new trial, but that was denied. So, he appealed to the Third Circuit Court of Appeal. In November 2015, the Third Circuit vacated his conviction and sentence based on insufficient evidence.

Then in 2017, the Louisiana Supreme Court reinstated the conviction.

Although the latest attempt at an appeal was also denied, McGhee has already served his time from his conviction in 2014.
