ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - Did you know that Louisiana is among the states with the highest levels of flu activity so far this season?
Health specialists are highly encouraging everyone to get vaccinated if they haven’t already.
The flu is a serious and sometimes fatal disease that claimed the lives of at least 80,000 people in 2017.
Unfortunately, more than 16,000 of those deaths were residents of Louisiana.
Lisa Lauve, a Family Nurse Practitioner for Rapides Urgent Care said that Central Louisiana is experiencing the worst of the flu already in 2018.
"Louisiana is actually right now third in the nation for flu prevalence and Central Louisiana is the top area in our state for flu prevalence,” She explained. “It is extremely important for people to get vaccinated.”
Some common flu symptoms include fever, coughing, body aches, chills, dehydration, and fatigue. Save yourself the risk this flu season and get vaccinated.
