Carnline’s family joined him at the Pineville flagpole on the Red River levee Thursday morning.

Tommy is a graduate of Northwestern State University with a degree in Veterinary Technology. He has been a resident of Rapides Parish since 1982 and worked at Lester Veterinary Hospital as a veterinary technician/hospital manager from 1982-2013.

While still working in the veterinary practice, in 1990, Tommy went to work at the Rapides Parish Sheriffs Office. First starting as a Deputy Communications Officer, he was later promoted to Communication Supervisor and also served as the Communications and Equipment Officer for the Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team.

Tommy served as the Public Information Officer for the last 6 1/2 years, attaining the rank of Captain until his retirement in February of this year to seek the office of Sheriff.

Tommy has been married to his wife Jeanne Badeaux Carnline for 22 years.

He said if elected, one of his top priorities is to take care of hard-working employees.

"I want to actually raise our starting salary, but most of all I want to pay those people that have been there 15 and 20 years, what they're worth," Carnline expressed. "We've got some great people that work at the sheriff's office, they've dedicated their lives, but it's discouraging to get off shift, to get a few hours of sleep, and then go work an extra detail. They’re missing time with their families, they're missing time watching kids at ballparks, and we need to correct that."

Also in the field of candidates are Clay Brister, Kris Cloessner, Dennis Dezendorf, Ronnie Sellers, Mark Wood, and Chuck Wagner.
The election will be October 12, 2019.
