SANFORD, Fla. (WESH) - Sanford, Florida's lakefront was a busy place Monday morning. Many people wanted to catch a glimpse of something peculiar.

An alligator popped up on social media over the weekend.
It lingered close to shore near downtown Sanford with a significant portion of the top of its nose missing.
Wildlife officers said because it was so badly hurt -- likely during a battle over territory with another -- they felt they needed to put it down.
