In February 2017, the Alexandria Police Department received a call to the Save More store on Lee Street for a report of a shooting. When they got to the scene, they found Melton had been shot in the head inside of a truck. West and Jackson were tracked down shortly after and arrested. Melton died the next day.

In March 2018, West pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice in lieu of armed robbery. The first degree murder charge against him was dismissed. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison and must testify if called in Jackson's trial.

Jackson is being represented by Allen Smith. The case is being prosecuted by Johnny Giordano.
